Black music, in its various manifestations, has formed the soundtrack for each wave of revolution and movement towards emancipation and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. Three MU scholars, Dr. Stephanie Shonekan, Dr. Anand Prahlad, and Dr. Maya Gibson discuss how music has accompanied political ideologies, social movements, and independence struggles in Africa and the Diaspora. In particular, they will focus on the United States, Jamaica, and Nigeria. The audience will be invited to particpate in the conversation.
