
It is with great sadness that the MU campus announces the death of Julius Thompson, Professor of History and Director of Black Studies.
Professor Julius Thompson passed away after a brief illness Friday, October 26. Julius was an accomplished scholar and historian, skilled biographer, widely anthologized poet and seasoned academic. In addition to teaching African-American history in the College of Arts and Science, he also led MU’s Black Studies Program.
Julius came to MU in 1996 following teaching stints at Jackson State University, State University of New York at Albany and Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In addition, he conducted research and lectured internationally. As an esteemed faculty member at MU, Julius was the recipient of numerous honors and awards.
