Walter Daniels
The Black Studies Program counts the Walter C. Daniel Resource Center as one of its greatest treasures. A collection of Dr. Daniel’s personal books, donated by Mrs. Launa Daniel, form the nucleus of the holdings.
The Center’s resources consist of thousands of primary and secondary publications along with films and journals related to the history, life, and culture of Africans and African Americans. Dr. Daniel earned the PhD in English at Bowling Green State University and his books reflect his interests.

Dr. Daniel, served as the president of Lincoln University from July 1, 1969, until his October 30,1972, resignation. In 1993, he accepted an appointment as vice chancellor at the University of Missouri.
In 1998, the family and friends of Walter C. Daniel established an endowment for the Walter C. Daniel Center to purchase books, periodicals, reference materials, and media resources for the use of students, faculty, and others involved in research about Africans and Africans in the diaspora
Aside from increasing its holdings through routine acquisitions, the Walter C. Daniel Resource Center received more than 500 books from the family of Julius E. Thompson, professor of history and director of the Black Studies Program from 1996 until 2007.
The Thompson Collection includes books of poetry and pamphlets by Black Arts Movement writers such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Nikki Giovanni, Sonya Sanchez, and Amiri Baraka. The literary works by and about African Americans in the Daniel and Thompson collections add a special dimension, not replicated by holdings in the Ellis Library, to the Walter C. Daniel Resource Center.
At the present time the library is a read-only research facility.
